چکیده

Debaprasad Giri, Sanjay Kumar and Yashwant Singh Department of Physics, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi 221 005, India Centre for Theoretical Studies, IIT, Kharagpur 721 302, India (Dated: February 1, 2008) Abstract A model of self-avoiding walk with suitable constraints on self-attraction is developed to describe the conformational behaviour of a single stranded short DNA molecule that form hairpin structure. Using exact enumeration method we calculate the properties associated with coil-hairpin transition. Our results are in qualitative agreement with the experiment.

Resistance of Cloned 1F5 Chimeric Anti-CD20 Antibody Heavy-Chain Gene to DNA Polymerase due to a Predicted Hairpin Structure

Background: Formation of secondary structure such as DNA hairpins or loops may influence molecular genetics methods and PCR based approaches necessary for genetic engineering, in addition to gene regulation. Materials and Methods: A polymerase chain reaction with splice overlap extension (SOE-PCR) was used to create fully synthetic 1F5 chimeric anti-CD20 heavy- and light-chain genes. The chi...

Characterization of nucleic acid higher order structure by gas-phase H/D exchange in a quadrupole-FT-ICR mass spectrometer.

Nucleic acid higher order structure is of intense interest in antisense and antigene strategies toward novel chemotherapeutic agents. Understanding how structural characteristics affect solution-phase properties is essential for a rational approach to nucleic acid-targeted drug design. The most dominant nucleic acid secondary structure is the hairpin, formed by intrastrand hydrogen bonding betw...

Detection of lead ions using an electrochemical aptasensor

The aim of this research was to develop a simple, selective and sensitive aptasensor for detection of Pb2+ based on hairpin structure of complementary strand (CS) of aptamer (Apt). Screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) was electrodeposited by gold nanoparticles to be used as the substrate for the immobilization of Apt-CS. Moreover, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and thionine were added to increase...

Effects of sequence on repeat expansion during DNA replication.

Small DNA repeat tracts are located throughout the human genome. The tracts are unstable, and expansions of certain repeat sequences cause neuromuscular disease. DNA expansions appear to be associated with lagging-strand DNA synthesis and DNA repair. At some sites of repeat expansion, e.g. the myotonic dystrophy type 2 (DM2) tetranucleotide repeat expansion site, more than one repeat tract with...

Control of mammalian translation by mRNA structure near caps.

The scanning model of RNA translation proposes that highly stable secondary structures within mRNAs can inhibit translation, while structures of lower thermal stability also affect translation if close enough to the 5' methyl G cap. However, only fragmentary information is available about the dependence of translation efficiency in live mammalian cells on the thermodynamic stability, location, ...
